Contests and Sweepstakes

Well, it's the morning of the first at 5:00am, so my monthly reminder has popped up telling me to 'Enter contests', which includes the sweepstakes for music equipment at Sweetwater as well as the random prize giveaway that they do every month at Pipes and Cigars. I'm curious, though... have any of you actually won one of these kinds of drawings? All you have to do is enter your email, so I feel like it's probably more of a way for them to get you on their junk mail list.

Years ago, my dad won a $3,000 drum kit from the Sweetwater thing. I think that's what keeps me entering these every month. But that was probably 2008 or 9, so a lot could have changed since then.

Interestingly enough yes and no. About thirty years ago I entered my boss into some stupid prize draw run by a low level porno magazine. He won a blow up doll and had hell to pay with his wife!

I won a $2300 lens recently. Unfortunately, it was a Sony, and I shoot Canon, so I sold it to a client at a nice discount. Winners all around!

I won a contest from Dark Horse Comics years and years ago for a big stack of Star Wars comics and trade paperbacks. More recently I won a free shirt on Instagram back when I had an account.

Can't recall winning anything else - a coworker told me he won the lottery once - like under $10 grand

Never won anything tobacco related but when I was in high school I competed in clay shooting. At the junior national completion there were many sponsors and raffles. One year my dad gave me and my brother each 25 raffle tickets to put in whatever bucket we wanted. I ended up winning 3 shotguns.

I put $100 into the National Press Photographer’s Association lens raffle that gives scholarships to aspiring photojournalists. I’ll give $100 again next year, with no expectations. But it would be so cool to win again!

I've been fortunate enough to win two separate contests through my company's wellness incentive program, each netting a $250 gift card - that was nice. Also a couple conests on a few of the motorcycle blogs/vlogs I follow. One TPMS system, and the other was a nice dash cam. I also enter P&C contest every month, but no winner on that one.

Not tobacco, but my wife and I won a fully-paid Caribbean cruise from the local HVAC company for letting them put their yard sign in front of our house after our last service call. We’ll be going early next year.
