I LOVE Oregon, but couldn't live there. It's politics would make me nuts. Seems an odd issue, I agree. Can't stand California politics and Oregon is worse. Beautiful place though!!!
Seriously, if you can, look to Montana!!! Bozeman or Missoula!!! Greatest place on this planet.

We pretty much are a one party state here in Oregon. The last set of gun laws were past as an emergency measure which meant voters had no say in the issue. That's how things work here. There's always a way around our state constitution if it suits the ruling party. Voters have reaffirmed the death penalty here three times and yet the governor refuses to "support and defend" the constitution. Same with our attorney generals.
Living on the coast is nothing like it is in California. Where you see luxurious beach homes in Malibu, in Seaside, Oregon you see a trailer park with rusty trucks up on jacks out front. Don't forget, we are expecting our scheduled 9.0 earthquake and tsunami any day now and have done just about nothing to prepare for it.
My wife and I are considering moving to central or eastern Oregon where people are more used to living by their own wits rather than relying on government direction in every part of daily life. Lagrande is a very nice town.
