I’ve tried to be a sophisticated pipe smoker smoking English and Virginia blends, oriental and the lot. But I always come back to burley and aromatic blends, and maybe something like sun bear. Burley just has the richness, the mouth feel, and smoothness I was looking for when I started smoking. Am I the only crazy one here?

Nah, man. Plenty to love about burley.

If there's one thing I've learned from reading peoples opinions on tobacco, it's this:

No matter the leaf, the blend, or the maker, there's going to be at least one person who'll go out of their way to hate on it and at least one other who will defend it to their death as the best thing ever created.

look we put plant leaf in a chunk of wood and set it on fire because it's fun. As I like it all somewhat smoker I can say smoke what you like because life is kind of short especially when contrasted with some of the cellars people on here own.

No, your palate makes the choice, at first. You may tire of it or, not. And, your palate changes over time. So, don't judge yourself to harshly. And your definition of "sophisticated?" is probably not applicable to the pipe. Nothing sophisticated with regard to burning up your moneys.
What good is working hard for your money if you can't burn some of it on something you enjoy. In regards to sophistication, I believe there to be a certain level of it seeing someone smoking a pipe, at least visually. What is burning inside the chamber on the other hand, not so much

In the last several years I’ve seen a big reduction in people posting random comments about “maturing,” “growing,” or “graduating” into certain genres of pipe tobacco, as if that was a natural [or even worse, the CORRECT] progression. Good riddance to that attitude.

Smoke what you like. Why would anyone do anything else?
