Complimented for Smoking a Pipe

I usually get asked by little kids if I am Sherlock Holmes ( I wear a trench coat often) or a detective. by older people I get compliments or people ask if I smoke pot in my pipe.

Compliments on the aroma of my pipe aren't uncommon, even in the era of so many restrictions on smoking in public. I'd say it's a given that I get at least a nod and a pleasant smile from strangers when I'm out and about with an aromatic smoldering in my pipe. It's also not unusual for people to let me know that they like the scent and that it brings back pleasant memories. Even when I first went public with a pipe in my late teens, most reactions from friends and even strangers were pretty positive and encouraging.

I have only been complimented once by a non-smoker female friend who told me my tobacco smells really nice, definitely better than cigarettes. My girlfriend still hates my tobacco smell... Sad.

Never got a single compliment until now. Girls look at me funny and ask "what is this?" I usually say " It's a pipe". I also smoke in my office and I have noticed a couple of women that were in the office and saw the pipe lying on the desk, looking a bit suspicious like " what exactly is he smoking in that thing..( hashish) ?

I don't care for any of it. I just smoke my pipe.

I get the "that smells so nice" comment all the time. And there seems to be a public perception that pipe smokers are intelligent and thoughtful guys. Maybe we are, maybe we're not but it's a great conversation starter.

I don't often smoke where others encounter me, but when I mention that I smoke a pipe I often get an affirmative smile from women. My tax preparer lady flashed me a smile and said, "Of course you do!" So apparently they think it fits my image otherwise.

Best feedback on pipe smoking for me has been from women and 20-something dudes.

I was once smoking my pipe in the car and during a traffic stop the car beside me honked so I look to my left and there was a "dude" in there - probably around 18/19 jumping up and down and flashing me a thumbs up every few seconds. I'm almost sure he thought I was getting stoned while driving and thought that I'm his new iconic rebellious hero ::

At this point, smoking a tobacco pipe is more rebellious than smoking weed, which is legal or quasi-legal in several states.
