Completely agree with your take on the flake. Capstan Blue and Peterson flake are two of my favorites, as well.
Thanks, I'm glad to hear it. I don't claim to be a "super taster" or the like. So many reviewers prattle on with details like the "mercurial presence of softly toasted caramel after a June rain" or similar fiddle-faddle. All I know is what tastes good to me.

Oh, man, I know what you mean. I used to feel I was genetically defective because I could not pull out all of those subtle flavors and tastes.
But if I like it.... then that's what counts.

Yup, and I’d say “all that counts”.

@fr0st, I’m jealous you can elucidate what you discern.
Even more impressed if one can do such on a blind taste test without having seen any reviews or descriptions prior to the smoke and conclusions…

Germain's Medium Flake and Brown Flake are two of my favourites but they're very difficult to get your hands on, these days. If you ever get the chance you should definitely try both of those.

Germains Medium Flake is a straight Virginia that utilises red, gold and brown varieties. They have a citrus, fruity seasoning and are pressed, aged and cut optimally for a cool, slow burn. The flakes are easy to rub and stuff into a pipe, which lights and plays well throughout.

Brown Flake is a molasses colored Virginia leaf. pressed into broad flakes that are resinous and delectable. The naturally bright lemon Virginia is first air cured to draw out the simpler, nuttier flavor, then pressed to ferment in its own vital juices.
