I just checked with Steve Laug, at Reborn Pipes (I also contribute there). He has a few blog entries on the various stingers used, but he too has never seen a stinger pinned to a tenon. Those kind of pins would have to be incrediby small. Even so, with a tenon inner diameter of a few mm's, any pin thru the tenon would be quite an obstruction. (I'd use a micro drill bit from an index as a pin punch to remove it) I'd have to see one broken down to believe this is even possible. I'm confident that the stinger in question is a friction fit.

Ok, that makes sense. (I think) NOT pinned thru the tenon, but rather the insert is threaded into the tenon, then a stinger inserted onto that aluminum piece. I have never personally seen one of these but think I understand it now. A pin thru the tenon did definitely not make sense!

Yep. I think that's how that one is assembled.

Crikey! The controversy rages! Lol. Here's some 'hopefully' better photos which may or may not help explain why I think the stinger is tapped/pinned through the tenon. I bought both these Comoys in a new/unsmoked condition. The larger billiard (291) has an identical stinger to the other one but is a freely removable push fit. On receiving the 64 tried all the usual methods of removing the stinger, leaving in the fridge for a couple of days/ pouring alcohol in & around the stem & stinger etc.(no joy) Resorted to placing a pair of 'mole grips' on the end of the stinger, which originally was flush up against the tenon. After some 'serious' pulling I stopped, as I felt it was about to shatter. The stinger actually came out a fraction, which you can see in the photo. What I think is the tap/pin had travelled/sunk a little bit with the pulling. I don't know, it's not a mark or a blemish or even a hole. It looks, feels like it's a tap & it shouldn't be there, but it is. What else can it be?image.jpegimage.jpeg
