This 331C Pebble Grain Bulldog was on Ebay last week and didn't get much attention. I've always been a fan of this shape, which to me is a graceful hybrid of the Bulldog and Prince shapes. It was delivered over the weekend and in pretty decent shape. It needed to be cleaned thoroughly but the briar was as you see it. Same for the stem, which has two teeth indentions on top. I tried to fill them with the black superglue, but they were just shallow enough it didn't hold well. I'm rethinking a solution for this issue. The pipe smokes great and I've always loved the 331C shape. I haven't weighed it yet, but I'd be surprised if it was over 40 grams.
Curiously, this one is stamped "Made In London" & "England" in two straight lines. This stamping is unsual and associated with WWII era pipes, or perhaps Pre-WWII. Tony Soderman has a similarly stamped Comoys on Ebay now so I asked him about the nomenclature on this Pebble Grain. He tells me that the Pebble Grain finish wasn't introduced until the 1970's. So it's age is from the 1970's to 1981 as it has a drilled, 3 piece C stem logo. Tony thinks the stamping can only be attributed as an anomaly.
I smoked two bowls of MM965 in it this evening. The draw is perfect and a nice easy smoke in the wide bowl.

She cleaned up SO well, Al! Nice job. I'll get that Comoy Golden Grain posted up sometime in the next week or so.
Can I assume you're keeping this one?
Cheers,

Holy moly, Al. That Comoy reminds me of the classic Dunhill PO cut. How did that one escape me? I keep pretty close tabs on eBay Comoys and I would've jumped on it had I seen it. Congrats and enjoy.

You seem to even be outdoing AJ in ebays steals. (Another guy at another place.) Not sure if we can attribute it to clean living in either of your cases. If we tried, laughter might ensue.
Nice catch, SS/RR/Al. That nice beastie found a good home.

Sure do. But you've got so many varied initial in forums that I almost need a scorecard. I think we both know that other AJ.

Awesome looking pipe, glad to hear it smokes well. Some emery boards and a buffer should fix those toothmarks, or perhaps a heat gun? Unless they are punctures, should lift right up.

They are twin punctures. Heat lifted the right one just a tad. But the left wouldn't budge. I'm going to mix some black and clear superglue and see if that sticks. I considered drilling out each indention a little deeper to give the super glue something to adhere to, than sand flush, but that's a risky move on a thin stem.

Al, I'd file 'er down before drilling, on account of the stem thickness, and if you get superglue in the airway, why you'll have to drill the stem draft. It's a nice pipe. Let me know if you ever want to part with it.

8O looks like the pipe smoking rabbit got a hold of that one. The left side one seems dangerously close to the airway & you don't want to go through there. I've no experience with filling in the holes, and I wouldn't file it either. I'd put a rubber bit on it......

If they were just a little bit deeper, the black superglue would hold fine. Shallow dents are a challenge. I didn't buy the accelerator with the black superglue and now wish I had. I'm trying a mix of black and regular super glue now.
