I have recently picked up a couple of Comoy’s Tradition pipes that have oxidation on the stems. Both pipes have the three part C. I’m only showing a pic of one of them, but the condition is very similar on both.

Is there anything I need to know before sanding the area with the three part C on the stem? Will I ruin the white C? I only ask because I have seen a few Comoys from this era where it appeared that people had avoided fully removing the oxidation around the C. I started thinking maybe they did that for a reason.

Anyway, here is the pic. Can I sand carefully in that area of the stem? Will it hurt the C?

I've sanded those 3-part C's before with no problems. I think the inlays are fairly deep. What you'll have to be careful about is rounding off the sharp edges on the stem............ that's the hard (and critical) part. Go slow.
