Comoy’s London Pride 430

The other day I cleaned up the bite marks on the bit. It required heating the vulcanite so it expanded back to near it’s original form, then carefully filing the bit down to remove the valleys.

I followed that up with sanding and polishing. The lip is still a bit misshapen, but that’s for another day.

I loaded up some WCC Glass Slipper. The pipe smokes like a dream. And I just love the long, sleek shape.

Yeah, it’s kind of a cross between Zulu, Bell, and Dublin.

So, would that be a Zubedu? Sounds like a pipe that Frank Sinatra would have enjoyed!

Picked up this Comoy’s…

Stem and chamber need some work. I usually wait until I have a number of pipes that need fill work on the stems. Same as chamber work. That way I don’t waste epoxy or ‘cement’.

But this is cleaning up nice…

I think the shape is in the title, a 430. But the Comoy's shape listing on Pipepedia has the 430 as a bulldog.

I'm not given to obsessive acquisition, but that pipe just looks like it wants to be smoked! That's got to be a pleasure to hold. And admire - it's straight up gorgeous. I am now going to Google that shape and try to restrain myself.

The ‘430’ is stamped on the right hand side of the shank. It’s a little thin.

SP has had some as estates in the past. They listed them as “Zulu”, not that that’s what it might have been designated as when it was originally marketed.

It does get a little hot mid bowl where the bowl surface curves inward, then I just set it down for several minutes…

I just got one of these in near mint condition. Anyone have a shape name for this? I’ve had a similar stummel before but wondering what it’s called. I’ll be keeping this one for sure. - P sorry for digging and old thread up but not too old. I can see how it is a Zulu almost but I’ve had a Barling’s with the same type bowl but more of a straight shank to it.
Edit: I see that Urn is the term used at SP for that part. Calling this a hybrid of a Zulu and an Urn. Seems to fit.
