All,

Does anyone that smokes in their car have any negative feedback for the habit as it pertains to the vehicle itself.

I have a newer vehicle and vowed to not smoke in it until it was at least paid for. As time goes on, I wonder is this worth it, as a commute pipe is a glorious thing.

I've scoured the WWWs for any information on the subject but I have found that all information out there is pertaining to Cigarettes and Children in the car during the smoking, neither of which apply.

I don't really care about resale value as I am going to drive this thing until it dies, or I do. Its really about: Is it going to smell smokey when other people are in it days after i drove it? I am probably only talking about morning commute times. And not every day.

Looking for "I've done it and this has happened" vs "do your yolo and be free who cares!" type feedback if possible.

Thanks!

By even posting the question, it tells me that you have a problem already with your vehicle smelling like smoke. So, you should not smoke in it.

Me? I smoke in anything I get into or around. If I am there, I am smoking. And, in my whole life, I have never had someone EVER tell me that they would not take my vehicle as a trade in because of the smell of smoke. FACTOMUNDO!!!
I did have the body shop that I had some damage repaired at vacuum out all of the lose tobacco under and between the seats and pumped my truck full of new car shit, and I had a come apart. Who the F does that? Without asking. I'd prefer everything I own smell like smoke rather than some artificial fake aromas.

However, if you hate the smell of smoke, just don't... save yourself the self loathing later.

I hate when they are all " oh yeah we wiped down the interior for you" and then you have a perfume headache driving down the road in the dead of winter 11% out all windows open so you don't puke. People assume the strangest things... Would much rather my car smell like a tobacco shop than a funeral parlor...

it depends. On what bothers you, what you're smoking, how the car is all that. Though honestly the only complaint I ever heard about pipe smoking in a car came from two places. The first was about a guy that dumped his dottle in his truck like in the cab on the seat between the seat. That I hear stunk a bit. And the other was someone that really is allergic to something in tobacco smoke. And they said oh it's nice but I can't take it.

and people that are NOT sensitive to perfumes always act like you're freaking crazy. Yeah I got imaginary puffy eyes and imagined sneezes. Which confirms with my theory that excessive perfume usage rots the brain.
Put the not in caps cause I had to edit it back in.

I don't have a problem with it, I am asking what the community has experienced.

Like, have we experienced the smell of wonderful pipe smoke in our cars?
Yeah, sure, whatever you can add vs just an assumption. I'd rather get asked what I mean like this than 'I can tell you are etc etc because you are asking this" Maybe you are right, but not necessarily.

I am really asking for others than the pipe smoker. So if my family gets in, will they have a problem.

I realize I can just find out but if asking this type of experience based question is off the mark here I guess I have the wrong idea of what a forum is.

I loooooove the smell, and when I walk in my office from the pipe break, my coworkers comment that it's pleasant as well but that's residual from smoking outside, not in an enclosed small space. I will be cracking the window to let it out.
I just thought I would ask. In my old 94 I didn't care.

My family considers the smell of wonderful pipesmoke to be the smell of home. But, to get to this point takes some work on your end. You will need to learn the skills of gaslighting, holding firm to your values, and obstinance. If my family complained about the smell of my pipe, they could find themself on the sidewalk really quick. puffy

A 20 to 25 minutes commute smoke sounds glorious to me. If my family wouldn't mind I would smoke in my car. I almost exclusively drive 1 of our cars to work and the other car my wife drives in which is the family car. Note the ALMOST. I don't care about resale value, the jackass at a dealership will find something anyhow to depreciate the value of the car and I drive my cars till they are financially unrepairable. It will smell like there is smoked in a car, it depends on the person how offended they would be, just like with smoking inside of your house.

I selected the above as the gist of your query. Short answer: probably, although not necessarily in a negative way. I smoke all the time in my car, and no one has ever even mentioned the residual scent, much less complained about it. I used to deliver brand new ultra-luxury cars to customers all along the east coast, smoking cigars in their new car all the way (prior to their signing the finance contract, no less), and I never had a complaint or lost a sale. The cabin was aired out with the windows down for the last 20 miles or so, the ashtray was scrupulously cleaned, and I never used the cigar lighter, but still, you'd think someone would bitch. But this was the '70s and '80s, so maybe people weren't the hyper-sensitive assholes they are today.

Warning: be careful when driving and lighting your pipe or cigar. Bad things can happen. Ask me how... Never mind.

I always am pipe smoking in my car, unless people are with me. The best pipe Ashtray on the market helps a lot. You need to make sure you have all things needed and readily available, tamper, ash tray, lighter and pipe cleaners. And Ash often or else itll end up everywhere.

Out of Stock, but this is what I use. Gamechanger.

I've smoked a pipe in most of my vehicles. I bought a brand new truck in the fall. I brought my pipe to the dealership with me and smoked a bowl on the way home. I smoke in my truck and in my tractor, but I don't smoke in my wife's car per her request.

Key word... my truck. I do with it as I please. If people have a problem with the smell, they can find another ride. That is my experience.

My commute is like my honeymoon, barely have time to listen to a 70s era AM radio song, lol.

Don't smoke in my vehicle in general because it isn't practical, only on road trips of some length and I enjoy having the windows open/cracked when I do, but that's normal anyway. I admit it, not a big fan of post-smoking effects inhabiting the vehicle but couldn't care less when in anyone else's. Having said that, I freely admit violating the rental car rules when in Ireland last summer and had a few bowls in the rental car (windows open) and even when driving solo (which is prohibited over there, of all things, unlike here, but almost never saw anything resembling law enforcement out on any roads we were on which I took as encouragement, haha). Most were enjoyed relaxing outside in the countryside.

Ever since our daughters' respective cats passed on, we've enjoyed the house having a more inviting aroma (although one's current cat visits and is always most welcome) and prefer to fill the house with the aromas of good cooking and baking. 95% of my pipe enjoyment is outdoors walking with a dog or mostly on the deck, or at the frigid present, after my holiday binge in the house, lol, the garage.
