Commissioned Set of Two Pipes Less Than 1k, Received!

If you recall, I polled this group last year about who you might ask to make a set of two pipes. One each for my wife and I.

After considering the short list you were able to provide (and thank you all for that, I had no interest in or capacity for the from-scratch research) I elected to reach out to Jesse Jones of Blue Room Briars.

Although he was very busy already, he was intrigued enough with the challenge to take on the project. I tried to make the brief as open-ended as possible to allow him to find inspiration for what would make the pipes "a set" on his own.

He asked a few questions about my wife and I as people and as pipe smokers, and requested pictures of our current collections.

Today, at the first day of The Chicago Show, I surprised my wife with these:

I think they perfectly bridge our two collections. My Spouse remarked that they look so different to the eye, but feel almost identical in the hand. Mr. Jones did an outstanding job.

The Juma accent is a nod to one of his "get to know you" questions. It's my spouse's favorite color. The symbolism of two rings is no accident, either.

The darker one has very similar flame grain, tho no quilting. You'll have to forgive my photography for not showing it off better.

I kept my mouth shut about which stem and stummel I was more attracted to during the commission process, and let my spouse pick first after she was surprised with the set at the Blue Room Briars table.

She chose the white-stemmed pipe right away. Jesse then admitted that he had been considering that one the "hers" of the pair the whole time. As we were showing the pipes off to friends (and strangers) at the show, I think nearly every respondent to the question made the same choice.

I'm always the last to know.

I think it's safe to assume that an overwhelming major of the people would say the light stemmed would be the female version of the set.
