I just placed my first order on smokingpipes.com as I normally use P&C. I decided to try the classics with an added feature. I order Paladin Black Cherry 1.5oz , Half & Half 1.5oz , Velvet 1.5oz and Lane 1Q 2oz. I kind of feel that getting those codger blends is somewhat of a right of passage. I want to get SWR, CH and PA but everyone is out. I heard so much about Lane 1Q that I just had to try it.

Love to hear your thoughts..

Some Codger blends get hated on quite a bit but to be honest I have yet to find a single one that I would consider terrible. I actually smoke OTC style blends quite a bit, here are a few favorites:

PA
GRANGER
SWRA
Mixture 79
Borkum Riff Whiskey
Super Value Whiskey Bourbon
Peterson Aran, Irish Dew
St Bruno
Match Field & Stream- this one is really Good!
Match Bourbon St, sugar Barrel, ERR, hell most of the Match blends are great IMO with just a couple exceptions.
Paladin
Half & Half
Velvet

It's fun to try blends for yourself and forget what others think, their opinion is really of little value as long as you like the tobacco that's all that matters. I waited forever to try Borkum Riff due to the number of negative reviews and was happily surprised when it turned out to be a decent tobac same goes for Mixture 79 which has some ridiculous reviews that appear more like a schemer campaign by a rival blender or a person with panties in a bunch lol.

I did the same thing last year, when PA and CH, etc. were still available. Carter Hall and Captain Black original were the ones that I enjoyed most. Now I have a stock of those two for when I get my codger on.

I hope these are pouches or small bulk orders. I'd hate to have to smoke my way through a tub of Paladin. Wait until your tastes have a chance to develop before buying anything in quantity. SWR Aromatic is popular with some people including me, as is Three Star Blue from Iwan Ries, though all codger blends have their detractors. I could never warm up to Half-and-Half, which seemed harsh to me, whereas my own burley/Virginia mixes are delightful. SWR Regular doesn't have much flavor for me. I've heard Velvet is basic but flavorful and good.
