I concur with the majority here. PA and the "standards" are nice to keep around for easy, satisfying smokes.
I began with SWR and about half way down that tub I sent for some PA. It took me awhile to acclimate my buds to the PA, but it too began to find its way through my neurological maze to my 'sweet spot' and I thought: I like this even better.
When my SWR got really low I suffered anxiety and ordered more.
Next, about half way into my PA, I sent for some CH...same scenario...a few bowls to discern its value and boom...tough choices, but not so tough, because I like them all.
So, last week, here comes my first Half and Half in 45 years...and it's got a tin note way more powerful than the rest. It packs just as easily and it burns very nicely. I've read several reviews on it and one suggested that it has a cherry topping. It seems the most aromatic of my codger blends so far, yet it is not overpoweringly pungent nor cloying.
Now...in addition to the H&H, I figured I'd try some of the new Mid Town Prince Andrew.
It looks like PA. I think the similarities end there, myself. Andrew is much more bitey and has to be smoked very slowly to appreciate.
I know that it may take me a few ounces into each of these last two acquisitions to get on board, and I fully expect the 'light' to come on more brightly for the Andrew. I hope so because it's so affordable right now.
I will say that my first encounters have put me off of the Mid Town just a bit, but I will patiently continue to attempt to extract the values I'm sure must be there for me once I become 'acclimated'.
H&H, too, has been somewhat 'bitey'. I tend to puff kinda hard, so I figure I will learn to moderate my puffing intensity with this blend and the Prince Andrew.
I haven't had that happen so much with the PA, SWR, or CH. These are worth having around all the time for their simplicity and their subtle, satisfying flavors.
