I did a very limited tour of several and discovered Carter Hall. I will definitely have some around going forward!

A 14 oz tin of Carter Hall is on my shopping list.

It is interesting to me that a large number of folks here keep mentioning Sir Walter Raleigh AROMATIC as their preferred OTC pipe tobaccos. I would be curious why you find the aromatic preferred over the original, cube-cut unadorned, Sir Walter Raleigh?

To my palette, SWR original is more robust, and yet more nuanced and broad in its range of flavors. And, I guess, I also like “smolder quality” of the cube cut.

They've been around a long time so a lot of folks must like them..My grand father smoked Prince Albert at least 70 years ago and probably before that.

I enjoy several of the codger blends, favourites so far are probably SWR and Half and Half. Will have to check out Five Brothers. Not too concerned what price range or market niche a tobacco fills, I’ll just smoke what I like.

If we consider Lane RR a codger blend, I have one I smoke regularly. I've smoked a good number of the others, and liked Prince Al the best, but feel no need to visit it again.

I may not remember well, because I have not had the SWR aromatic in decades, but I seem to remember it being ribbon cut. For me the SWR cube cut style was an additional part of its charm for me.... and also because it was the first pipe tobacco I had as well.

I just didn’t enjoy the flavor of SWR that much that I would continue smoking it. It’s a little more rough around the edges and the room note is not great. Nothing about it stood out to me.

SWR aromatic is ribbon with a sweet but not cloying unidentifiable-to-me top note. Tastes good without chemical overload and the room note is pretty good.

for straight codger burley nothing in the world beats Granger IMO. Smooth, nutty taste with a much better room note... and the “rough cut” is a bonus. It burns wonderfully.
