Most of my cobs had "taste." Sort of like sucking on a buttered corn on a cob, but very diluted version of it. After few bowls, it was hardly noticeable. After 10+, I don't detect any corn taste.

would you recommend Forever stems now? Or since under “new- management” no? I was looking at them to make a stem for a cob I have.
While I'm sure the Forever Stems are a high quality product, one of the greatest attractions to Missouri Meerschaum is design of their 80 cent plastic stems which have smoother airway geometry than anything except pipes from the most legendary artisan pipemakers.
Injection molding can create shapes that are impossible to drill, if you look at the inside of a basic Missouri Meerschaum plastic stem they've got the best a taper from button to tenon that you will see on practically any pipe.
The button isn't excessively thick either, it's only the material choice that some complain about, but if the soft plastic doesn't bother you (it was designed to be more comfortable to clench than anything else) then Missouri Meershaum already makes what is effectively the best stem in the world.

I have two girls, so the big screen is mainly for princess movies. ? As soon as the postgame started, they were all like, “Daddy, can we watch something else now? PLEEEEEZZZUH!”

But yes. Go cats! We handled business last night.

IIRC, you said your son played baseball at UK, right?
RIght, it is a great school.

I get the same from my grand daugther. We compromise by, "I will watch your movie and then you can watch mine". :) We watched Mountain Minor, my movie, about Appalachian music based in Kentucky. Here is a book written by Kentucky music.

I’ve posted this pic a couple times tonight. But I’ve got a question for you.

I have 3 cobs now. And each of the other two smoked/tasted great the very first time. Like how I expect a con to be.

Well, this new MM Elf Cobbit tastes like a pipe that needs breaking in.

Anyone else ever experienced this with a cob before? First time for me. Thought the cobs were supposed to be good to go from the get go.

Yes. I have about a dozen different cobs and maybe half of those required working through that initial "corny" essence; very common from my experience. Hardwood versions don't exhibit that; definitely drop and burn pipes from the get-go.

I always thought it'd be cool if MM made a cob pipe with the kernels intact, and that plaster of Paris smeared on between the kernels, then wiped off, just enough to show the golden grain........... it would make for a heavy, chunky, pipe....... but people like custombilts..... right?
I think the kernels would just eventually fall out, but if they could manage it so they don’t, I’d be all over that

Since I've gone to ordering the special edition MM cobs direct form MM online, with the acrylic stems, I haven't had occasion to order any more Forever stems. Under old management, it converted any filter pipe to a non-filter pipe, and you had to specify whether you were buying for a filter or non-filter pipe by ordering the right item. After that, they would cut the stem to any length (shorter than the stem already was). They had an array of interesting colors. Their orange swirl went well with natural cobs. I haven't heard anything negative about the current management. Just read what stem goes with what pipe, and see if there are any options on length.

In my limited experience, cobs smoke quite easily. Very little maintenance. Cool smoke. I enjoy them a great deal. And for the price, hard to beat.

Too bad MM Cob is selling quite expensive here, because of the shipping fee . I think i can only go for those local made one, which don't look so nice like the MM Cob :(

The Cobbit pipes are great, to the original post, most take very little break in to me. Though I did have one that took twice the normal 5 or 6. Couldn’t get over that burnt stem taste at the bottom. But it turned into one of the best cobs I have. Now I blast a torch down a new one and burn the stem a little. That cuts it way down.

Yeah. That burnt stem flavor is a good description.

By now, I’ve smoked around 10 bowls in my Elf Cobbit. It’s smoking great, is super tasty, and feels quite a bit sturdier than my other two cobs. (Mark Twain and a Merrick Cob Poker)
