I don't use them. I've never tried the Balsa filters, but I have tried the ones that the cobs come with. I can't see much benefit in those.. I also want to keep things as simple as possible, don't want anything else to keep up with.
I don't care for the Medico filters. As soon as I learned that filtered cobs take 3 mm balsa filters I got myself a few packs. It's not really a hassle; I don't know why some think or even insist it complicates matters: one has to take the pipe apart to clean it anyway: tossing the filter and inserting a new one then takes but a couple of seconds.

Frankly, the real hassle is to be inserting those cleaners mid-smoke all the time. More stuff you have to carry with you.

Youre right, it's not like you have to take filters with you everywhere you go.

There are too many tools and pieces to pipe smoking, if you try to use them all. Haha If I'm not careful I have pipes and other paraphernalia spread out across the house. I've pretty much quit using pipe cleaners, in an effort to not have pipe stuff everywhere.

Wood filters can be simply rinsed out pretty well in hot water and reused...balsa and Brigham's special wood (which I can't recall the name of). Never bought any because any I have were included with the pipe. I do recall someone making their own balsa filters...said it was much cheaper.

but, I don't remember, I don't recall, I've got no memory of anything at all...like a politician... and I never said that.

Maple distillators for Brighams. Yup, they're OK. The good thing about Brighams is that, unlike other filtered pipes, taking the filter out does not greatly enlarge the draught hole, nor does the airflow get that much restricted with the filter in: talk about sweet spot. Other manufacturers should watch and learn.
