A agree with the others that G&H Bosun Cut Plug is the closest pipe tobacco I have found that tastes similar to those clove cigarettes from years past.

There was a tobacconist here in Chicago in the 90's that had a bulk blend called "bullseye" on the counter that had a strong clove flavor. It's likely that he was ordering it from Lane Ltd or similar.

Was it Arlington Pipe & Cigar in Arlington Heights? He was selling a house blend a few months ago called

Bullseye.

Scloyd - Nope. It was Tobacconist Inc on Irving Park Road in the city. I still see it open during the day sometimes, but the place looks pretty cleaned out and about to be closed. "Since 1946 Everything for the Smoker".

A footnote: In addition to being a standard spice for ham and such, cloves used to be sucked singly as a breath mint type thing. Of course, it didn't melt; you just eventually spit it out. A standard schoolroom holiday gift project was sticking a bunch of cloves in an apple -- I think some used an orange -- and letting it dry out and mummify as a sweet scent for mom's nightgown drawer or dad's sock drawer. The clove cigarettes of my youth, the smoke smelled too awful to sample. I had some common sense.
