I’m going to start off small with my questions. Of all the blends sold here in the US, is there something even comparable to Mick McQuaide Square Cut? This also goes for Condor.

James Fox in Ireland sell the ready rubbed vesion of Mick McQuaid, as far as I'm aware they're the only place that still stock it. They also have the plug version of Condor.

If you're looking for old Condor, I'm sorry to say by most accounts it is long gone with the move. As for M. McQ, I've been looking for a while and no luck this side of the pond without a costly order.

EDIT: Still haven't found any worthwhile substitutes either. I still wish I had never tried Warrior Plug...no substitute for that either.

Totally agree about Warrior being unique, I'm surprised it wasn't more popular.

In terms of Condor the answer really has be no. Even Condor doesn't taste like Condor anymore to me but that because I have been smoking the stuff for 40+ years. Since the move to Poland I have stopped buying Condor Plug as it tastes like you are sucking the farts out of Phil the Ground Hog. As to Mick I like the Plug and had the good sense to stock up on a life time supply of the stuff. The cube cut stuff I have never been fond but as someone else pointed out you can get it from Ireland. If you want something interesting and British with an American twist you might want to try War Horse Bar or War Horse Green. The Bar is a copy of the original War Horse as sold in the U.K although everyone on here has an opinion on that subject but you can best be the judge. If you can get the older tins made by The Standard Tobacco Company of PA they will really kick you in the butt. War Horse Green was meant to taste like Condor but the blenders missed the target but by accident created something that has quite a dedicated following I am informed. Due to the FDA regulations I would certainly buy up anything you like since it may soon disappear. I hope that is of some help and answers partially your question.

I learned something new as I had no idea Condor changed. Around what year did it change?

Also, big Mick McQuaid fan here. If anyone has any please direct private messages to me and @ExpatBrit. Thank you, haha.

I don't know those blends, however when I try match blends and I know the originals, I usually find they are a bit different, sometimes good in their own way, but often good in an entirely different way, if they happen to be good. So trying the substitutes for me is more a way of finding new, hopefully satisfying, blends.

You might want to try Peterson's 3P Perfect Plug. It is very similar but with just a slightly different top note than Mick McQuaid. It might fill the itch

Condor Long Flake is freely available in the UK but not the plug version. I tried the flake version but didn't care for it much, sadly I never got to try it before production was moved to Poland.
sorry I have to ask you something what's the forum name about? I thought if I just waited I'd eventually run across something that said what it was about, but this has not happened so... I am just asking dang it.

I try a "match" blend now and then. I try not to make comparisons though, hard as it is not to do. I'm just looking for another blend to like, not a replacement per se. This is especially true for blends I enjoyed in the 60's. The so called "match" Dunhills are nothing like the old stuff. But, some are still eminently smokable on their own terms, thoroughly enjoyable.

@condorlover1 I can't say anything about Condor since I've only had my clay pipes since production moved to Poland so can't compare it with the original.
Do you know when Condor first appeared?
