Used to be a holder, now I'm mostly a clencher since I started using the softy bits. I find it easier now.
This would definitely be a strange thread to read for someone who doesn't know what we're talking about...

I am usually a clencher but I have one or two pipes that are just too heavy to clench for any length of time. I am right handed but I tend to clench on the left.

I clinch 90% of the time, the side depends on what I am doing at the time.

Some of both, depending on the pipe I'm smoking and what I happen to be doing while smoking said pipe! :)

Probabley 50% holder, 50% clencher, keep a softy on every brair pipe stem, my teeth are very very sharp.

Clencher.......except during conversation, when the stem is held pointing at my neck. Sometimes the mouthpiece is waved or pointed at a listener's face for speaking emphasis, before returning home between the teeth.

I'm about a 50/50 guy myself, but oddly enough I too am right handed but clench on the right and hold with my left hand and occasionally clench on the left then hold with my right hand...guess I'm weird

5000 years ago, when we smoked in offices, I clenched nearly all the time while working. Went thru a lot of bits, however.
Now, I only clench when I'm working in the shop; otherwise, I'm holding, usually left handed, smoking with either side of mouth. Right hand is busy with the single malt or cognac....

I could say I almost always hold. I find it awkward to smoke and clench, it's probably just one of those skills that develops over time.
I do most of my smoking sitting at the computer, browsing Youtube, Reddit, PM. what have you, so I hold left handed so I can work the mouse, and then I just rest the pipe in my mouth to type. It's also kind of calming to hold a nice warm pipe in your hand.
I've noticed that when I do something that requires two hands like reading or playing video games with a controller I'll generally clench, but pause to remove the pipe from my mouth while I exhale.

Depends on what I'm doing when I'm smoking. If I'm sitting, then I hold the pipe; I sit to smoke my more expensive pipes. If I'm walking (going for a walk or walking the dog), I clench; usually smoke a cob then. I hold my churchwardens whether I'm sitting or walking.

I always hold mine, unless I'm lighting with matches sometimes. I don't have a rubber piece on mine, so I try to avoid bite marks.

I would say I'm about 90% holder and 10% clincher. I find that when I clinch I get more saliva in my pipes which has me running a pipe cleaner through it several times. When I'm holding my pipe I alternate hands. It depends on what I'm doing for which hand I hold it in.
