When it comes to cleaning a clay pipe, most options recommend heat such as the oven on self-clean most or even putting the pipe in hot coals. Any recommendations for a Peterson clay that has a metal band at the end of the shank?
Thanks,

Tim

I prefer hot water for all pipes except corncobs or any pipe with a crack or fissure. This is currently a minority view, but it works a treat.

I have a Lepeltier clay pipe. I clean with just hot water as recomended from the company and it is perfect. It does not need anything else.

I have a straight Peterson clay with a nickel mount cap. I was able to carefully loosen and remove the mount and then cooked the bowl under my infrared broiler. It came out nearly white. I replaced the mount and used a bit of glue to hold it.
