So I let my cobs sit outside for a few hours yesterday and this morning. Also cleaned the stems with vinegar, as well as the shanks (they weren't all that dirty at all).
That helped a bit, but I'm still getting that taste like I'm inhaling smoke from burning wood - it even irritates my throat. Not getting that from my briars.
I'm gonna put them in the sun again tomorrow, hopefully that will improve things a bit more. But at this point, I can't help but wonder if my cobs are ruined. 🤷‍♂️

Please update how is it going after drying it under the sun. I too have the same problem as yours but the smell is gone once I smoked it. In fact it tasted better than the previous smoke. I am on my fourth smoke on my new cob (newbie). It was plastic-ish taste the first time I smoked it. But after cleaning my pipe, damn, the smell appears again but not too strong as the first time. Lots of people say after 5-10 smoke, it will smoke better. But then, I’m not sure if the awful smell getting better or worse (after cleaning).
