I am loving the clay with Aros the past few days! I have one meerschaum that doesn’t ghost, and one that does, but neither of them smoke as cool as these cheap clays.

Just be sure to get a few of them to make up for breaking :)
@aspiring_sage I've lost count of how many clays I've broken!

I’ve been thinking for the mouth piece and other areas to toughen it up, and to help against breakage, getting hemp twine in colors, and wrapping it in various places.

Time to make some fancy looking clays and get them in Style! :)

I haven't given it a proper test, but I think I prefer the cotton wrapping to the nail polish that I've tried.
The cotton dries quickly.

You're suggesting hemp. As long as it is fine enough I think that the Hemp would be even better once the taste goes away. Let us know how it goes!

Will be wrapping one in silicon once I bite through the polish I'm testing.

I have a few clay pipes that I enjoy at home. They ain’t suited for travel. A few coats of nail polish has held up well. Revlon. Pearlescent Red. Looks snazzy. That’s important when I’m all alone.

OK, I just broke this one while cleaning it. Just a couple inches off the stem, so not a big deal.
Here's the pipe that I have from Weezle's estate, just getting it's first coat of "Petites Hot Sauce" red.
Maybe I should add some glitter?

I got that for him and one for Andre Lelong (Mr. 1920s) back in 2016. I am not surprised as I have a couple of jars of his that are that way as well!

It was this one that I broke:

But I found another just like it buried in my office.
This, I believe, is one of the clay pipe designs sold by P&C.
Curiously, the giant Williamsburg pipe still smells like clay. The P&C one doesn't.
@woodsroad Pipes & Cigars website unavailable in UK; a shame as they appear to have some nice clays. Not buying any this year but will have to try on eBay or Smokingpipes. Going to need supplies for living history re-enactment!

Another source for you, although they don't seem to stock this particular pipe:

P&C identifies this pipe as the "Old German Clay Pipes #7". Whether that is Old German's nomenclature or P&C's, I don't know.

@woodsroad Many thanks. I'll try not to break any clays next year!

I tried some nail polish but it isn't as hard as I had hoped.
Maybe the polish isn't the good stuff you all used, but I can dent it with my fingernail, and a little bit of clenching is going to remove the polish.

For comfort and performance, I prefer the twine rapping on the OD williamsburg, but prefer the polish on the small Old German Clay pipes.

I'll try the silicon tape after the polish wears out. I have high hopes for the silicon.

Experiments with the painted pipes:
On one attempt, I painted a with a very thick coat, added a thin coat or two the next day.
On one I added a single coat per day for a few days then leave it sit about a week (because I forgot about it).
One where I coated it thick with multiple coats and waited a day or two before smoking.

They all take a dent from my fingernail, and feel about the same in hardness.

I use whatever nail paint the wife and daughter throw out.
I can tell you that this nail polish, when applied in thin coats, a day or more apart, works.
