I have been advised by someone that makes clays, that if you put a clay pipe that is not white into a fire, it will be white when it comes out. I have a black pipe from him, so I won't use fire to clean that pipe.
I enjoyed a clay last week. They are fun, but my brairs get more use.

I guess briars are the most convenient way to go, and most popular too. I don't expect that this pipe will make my regular rotation either, but I was wanting to try a clay mostly to broaden my tobacco horizons.

You can also throw it in the coals on your outdoor grill after you're doing BBQing.
I'd be careful about cleaning it in the oven, unless want your next birthday cake to taste like latakia.
Between smokes, I use churchwarden pipe cleaners to swab mine out.
