Any Cincinnati pipe smokers out here?
I went down to the local B&M downtown today (Straus Tobacconist, est. 1880) to pick up a new lighter and some PS Luxury Navy Flake. Most of bulks they sell there are their own aromatics. When your in the shop, they will let try a bowl of any of these for free. In the past, I tried their Losantaville which I did not much care for. I don't smoke aros that often and this one had almost no flavor, but a great aroma.
Based upon a tobacco review I read I thought I would try their their "Mercantile" blend. It is described as "Burley is blended with toasted Cavendish for a mellow flavor, with a touch of black cherry for the right sweetness". Apparently, it is an attempt to mimic discontinued Lane's TK 6, which I have never tried. It almost made me want to convert to aromatics. It had a nice flavor, decent kick and smelled heavenly.
They have so many blends to try I was wondering if anyone else out there was a fan of theirs and what blends they like.

I like Cincinnati a lot, and its neighbor across the river, Covington, Ky. I've never been to Straus. However, I think burley, if you like it (and I do)

and Cavendish usually make a pleasing match. If they do a blend with just those two, it would be worth trying, or perhaps just those two and

a very light aromatic, whatever flavor you like. You could ask them, and if not, they might put something together for you, or give you the makings.

Burley, Virginia, and Cavendish also make a nice blend. I like the Burley and Virginia in equal parts, and about a half part in Cavendish. In my

opinion, cherry must be very light to be pleasing. A light whisky, vanilla, or walnut can be good, if properly done. I want the tobacco way forward,

and just a touch of the flavoring, if any.

You should meet up with CAPS (cinci area pipe smokers) I think they meet at Strauss every Saturday am. I know they have a Facebook page and they'd probably know more than most of us about Strauss and their blends...

Fairfield here. I've been to Strauss three times. Once downtown and twice in Florence. FYI, Losantaville is 1Q relabeled. I had no idea there was a. Cincinnati Pipe Club. I wish I had time to go meet with them.
