I smoke cigars when I am doing something like yard work and still find them enjoyable. I smoke the pipe when I am relaxing. I enjoy pipe smoking much more, and enjoy pipe tobacco much more than cigar tobacco, but I enjoy them both.

Humidor full of great cigars, actually smoking a cigar right now. If you can find a Kafie, get it. It's good. But I am smoking far fewer cigars than I used to. I just enjoy my pipes more. The good stogie has its time and place but the pipe has become the go to. Plus another reason for me is that when you light a cigar, you better smoke it then, don't let it go out and relight, it's just not good. My pipe, I can smoke a while, go do something, come back and it's just as good as when I first lit it... Sometimes even better. :)

It's just not a "versus" thing for me.
I would not even compare the two ... apples to oranges, so to speak.

Really, it comes down to what I'm in the mood for and how much time I have to enjoy it.
I like steaks and I like burgers ... one does not substitue the other, however.

I used to prefer cigars, but now that I have been smoking a pipe daily for about a year I prefer the pipe. That being said though, the cigar is a bit more consistent to me in that I find it to be less dependent on your palate on a given evening and of course the issue with packing and tamping is eliminated thus reducing some of the critical variables for a good smoke.

I go through phases. Sometimes never want one, then go through a phase where I want 1-2 a day and lay off the pipe. The "on" phase is fairly rare, and I've never been successful keeping a humidor. One day it'll be perfect, the next it'll be at 30%. And I've tried good ones, too! Maybe the northeast just isn't the place to keep cigars long term.

My smoking journey started off with cigars. I had nearly 2 humidors full. But then I started getting kind of bored with cigars since they all tasted the same to me. If anything, the ones I really enjoyed were the Drew Estate Undercrown and the Herrera Esteli.
Once I picked up the pipe, there was no looking back. I haven't smoked a cigar in what feels like forever. I just like the feeling of being involved with pipe smoking..............well that and I like how we can relight with ease as opposed to trying to relight a cigar and have the flavor completely go rash.
Though I do have to say, I still take care of the cigars in my humidors and still pop open my humidor lid from time to time to get that nice humidor smell.

I was an avid cigar guy for years. It was a total PITA to keep this bad boy stocked every month.

My everyday day cigar was a Diesel Unlimited torpedo. You do the math: $5.00 per stick, one stick per day, multiples on the weekend. I was blowing $200-$300 per month and occasionally more if on higher end stuff. Tried a pipe a couple of years back because I was always intrigued. After a while, I began to like the pipe more. The range of flavors and diversity in blends are mind boggling compared to cigars.
I still like a stogie a couple times per month, only now I can afford better cigars. The wife even likes the pipe more. According to her, the tobacco is cheaper, smells better, and the pipes are considered a "capital investment." Who am I to argue.
One other thing I have found is that being a pipe smoker has allowed my palate to detect things in cigars that I could not before. It's made me a better cigar smoker

I do agree that cigars just kinda taste like "cigars" to me. There are different flavor profiles, but most cigars in a specific flavor profile taste the same to me unless the tobacco is not of good quality or it's rolled improperly.

I used to really enjoy my cigars. I got back into pipe smoking, exclusively, and finally tried a cigar again....not the same experience I remember. There was nothing there I remotely enjoyed, which sucks, as I have some quality cigars aging in my humidor!

I think cigars are social, while pipes are contemplative.
Cigars and golf, cigars and nightclubs, a cigar on the beach or on an after dinner promenade.

A pipe and a book, a pipe before bed or with morning coffee, a pipe while typing on the interwebs.

And per another thread on this board, pipes should be sipped slowly, while cigar are meant to create billowing clouds of smoke.
That's my two cents.
