I have recently tried a few of the cigar blends and like them. Upon lighting and occasionally throughout the bowl I get a good flavor of cigar and want more. I don't smoke cigars because they’re $10+ a piece and I wont smoke it all so lots of waste. But it hit me (yes I am behind on this hobby) what if I bought a good cigar, pinched off an inch, rubbed it out, and loaded it all would I still get that cigar flavor all the time or does it only come with wrapper burning on occasion?

Anyone do this and if so what is a good cigar to try!

How about smoking the cigar to the point you would throw it away and rub out the remaining portion and put it in your pipe.
Yea good idea and I am going to try it once, but again a cigar cost $10+ and I have read (no experience) that its not good to relight a cigar the next day, etc as flavor and quality diminishes. But I thought I could rub out a cigar and jar it and maybe get 5 bowls from it. That would be worth it.

I am going to try it and was asking if anyone has tried it and what cigar they liked.

I smoke a lot of $2-$3 cigars and enjoy them greatly. Happy to point you in the right direction if you are interested.

I have some C&D Chopped Cigar Leaf for mixing. It is ribbon cut Pennsylvania cigar wrapper tobacco. I like it and mostly smoke it straight. It is one dimensional though. I think I will take your idea and chop up a cigar to mix in to give it more depth. I’ll probably try just the chopped cigar alone as well.

I did this with a cigar nub that was too hot to handle but still tasting good so I put it in the pipe to finish it. It generated ALOT of moisture though in the bowl, which was surprising when I removed the shank. It was a military mount so I could do it hot, and it literally had a pool at the bottom and it spilled out. Maybe I did it wrong...

Cigar in a Pipe

This is an old, old idea.

To wit: In his biography of William Faulkner, Stephen B. Oates wrote (regarding Faulkner's relationship as a child with his father), "The father, in Billy's eyes, now loomed dull and contemptible. The youth addressed him with a sarcastic 'sir' and would go out of his way to provoke him. One day Murray sat down beside his son, said he thought he understood him a little now, and offered him a cigar. 'Thank you, sir,' Billy said, then crumbled the cigar up in a pipe and smoked it. 'He never gave me another cigar,' the son remembered with a chuckle."

I was graciously sent some mostly complete cigar tobacco leaves. I will use them as a blending component, but … a buddy and I used the cigar leaves as a wrapper stuffing inside a homemade blend of Virginia and orientals. We called them Outlaw Cigars. And they were halfway decent and we did not die from them.

Tonight I chopped up about an inch of a NUB Connecticut cigar and gave it a go in a pipe. It was just OK. I prefer it as a cigar. I mixed in some C&D cigar leaf on a second bowl. I enjoyed it less. You reminded me it was something I wanted to try, to get that cigar flavor for a shorter smoke. I won’t revisit it. Give it a try, YMMV

Seems like a good idea, especially given that you know you like the flavors

I hear ya on the price

I've really taken to cigars over the past few years. Here's what I do, initially in solidarity with our friends in countries that are taxed beyond belief, continued because I really like it

Every time I clip a cigar, sometimes doing 10-20 at a time, I save the caps and any bits that come with it

When I feel like it I'll load a pipe by either stacking caps in a cob, or breaking them up a bit and loading a briar.

Sometimes, I'll mix with C&D Winchester, which is VA and Cavendished Dominican Cigar leaf.

Maybe not for everyone, but I find it quite good. There is a clarity that comes through that I like

I would think using the whole cigar would be similar, though I'd also readily concede that the caps I'm smoking are (obviously) wrapper
