Been smoking more cigars - I was curious if anyone has an air purifier for smoking indoors, and if so, if they really do eliminate the smell?

I've read various things and I'm not sure I'm convinced that they actually do truly eliminate odor (though it seems they do at least help).

Curious as to people's thoughts and what they've used.

Nope certainly can reduce it a lot. But at least from my experience your wife will know that you smoked in the room. She might be fine with it because it will be a lot less of the smell then without. Also depends on how often you smoke in the same room too.

I agree.

This question gets asked, and answered, frequently here, so I'll give you the quick answers:

1. Nothing short of removing the smoke will remove the odor. Smoke should be removed as close to the source as possible. Once it mixes into room air, all the room air has to be exchanged with fresh air.
2. The odor can be somewhat covered up with scents, but the non-smoker will not be fooled.
3. Air treatment, such as an electrostatic precipitator, HEPA filtration, ozone and activated charcoal will reduce the odor, but again, not eliminate it. Size matters, and an air treatment system needs to have sufficient capacity.
4. Smoke sticks to things, and is then damned near impossible to remove without serious cleaning.

The longer that the smoke hangs in the air, the more of it that will attach to the walls, carpet, upholstery, draperies, etc.

That unit should be sufficient for a small den or 20’ Conex box, provided there are no drapes.

Of course not. The smoke particles adhere to paint, carpet, clothes, hair, everything. Some filters may mitigate a bit but, overtime your room will gain a distinctive reek. No way around it. Just enjoy as a well earned side benefit of smoking, the reek of stale smoke. Comes with the self-selected wee vice at no extra charge.

Only way is to keep smoking so you won't know the difference. That day after stale smell sucks only until you lit the next one.

Pop and I loved cigars and Mom (who had quit cigs) allowed us to smoke in one room because she's a saint. After pop passed in 06, my cigars were still tolerated. That said, it's one of many things I adore about pipes: They are less stinky. (I like lat blends too! Stinky is good, but ,,,) One is simply burning a lot less tobacco. (Many other merits with pipes ...) Me with a pipe keeps the peace. All good.

That said, the true answer is that cigars are cigars and one's likely got a better chance with a pipe indoors. Happy puffing.,

Damn smoke just gets into furniture and drapes, and you can't the stuff of it short of washing the item that it is in.
The best thing I had was 1500 cfm unit was tremendous at getting rid of the smoke and odor. None of the small units will get rid of all the odor.

My wife, who was an anti-tobacco freak when we met, now always comments on how wonderful our home smells when we return from a trip. And, I smoke cigars and pipes inside all the time. As for selling my house. a new coat of paint, a floor polish, and all will be good as new.

When we first fostered our daughter (my 6th and only non-genetic child) we had to do a home inspection once a week for the first month. This was a teen, not a baby, so... anyways, a few hours before the DHR rep would show up, we would spray the drapes with apple cider vinegar and wipe down all of the wood furniture. The DHR personnel would say, "I thought you said that you were a smoker? It smells like fruit in here" It works.

But, for the most part, we love the smell of smoke in our house. But, I still won't let cigarette smokers smoke. They can go smoke outside like a bitch. puffy

Great answers, thank you everyone. I think you confirmed my assumption!

Pipe smoke doesn't seem to stick to things as much for whatever reason, so I supposed cigars will remain a summer thing. I've just been a bit into them lately and was curious.

My wife is very anti-smoking indoors.
Even when I suggested installing an industrial ventilator in one room.

Only time I smoked cigars indoors when I was in a hotel that had smoking rooms.
The stench of just one cigar was so bad, I almost asked to be moved to another room.
I didn’t because I was too embarrassed. And in case they billed me for cleaning their drapes and all the soft furnishings ;)

If you keep your house clean it won't smell like smoke.

It's the dust and the grease that the smoke smell sticks to.

When I was growing up, everybody smoked in our house, my whole family smoked, many still do... and I mean inside. My mother cleaned and dusted all the time, our house didn't smell like cigarette smoke, unless people were actively smoking.

My wife does the same, and our house smells fresh... Like pinesol, dish detergent, or clothes soap.

Keep the air moving and the house clean... Wipe the walls, and scrub the floors... Empty the ashtrays, and take the trash out often... Maybe even cook a pot roast.

I go over to the homes of some people that I know, and they have dogs rubbing their buttholes all over the place, but no smoking... Those houses would see a great improvement if somebody fired up a bowl of Balkan Supreme.

IMO:

I wouldn't have a stank mongrel stinking up my house with slobber and shedded hair... But I know people dedicatedly love their muts, especially on the internet.

We did cats in here for a while... But I'm even glad that phase has passed.

Some people won't have smoking... To each his own.

I don't know that keeping a place clean exactly fixes the smell issue, maybe for the smoker but it's the same thing as being a cat owner and not smelling its litterbox like visitors might, just because you're used to it. Cigarettes, same thing. Pipe smoke is different for whatever reason, it leaves a smell it's just not a foul one.

I dunno, figured I'd ask, more of a pipe guys but every odd year or so I get a real hankering for cigars and end up smoking one or two almost every day. Would be nice to do it over the winter as whim arises, but tbh I probably won't be in the mood during those months anyways.

Craig61a mentioned the Rabbit Air Minus A2 and I agree it works very well for pipe smoke, cigars seem to be a different beast. I smoke indoors only in inclement weather, the Rabbit Air does a great job of minimizing odor, especially after running the ozone treatment.

Checking In as a cat owner and smoker. That’s my worst fear to go nose blind to foul scents. I do advocate the Rabbit Air system and daily cleaning of the turd box.
