If you like classical churhwardens, might I suggest the Peterson D17? The bowl is impressively large and rounded at the heel, offering a larger space, and if you can get it in grey, the translucent effect is spectacular and is an memorable smoke. You might have to search for it. I got my from overseas through ebay, of all places.

Hey there Sparrowhawk. I meant to get back to you the other day. I don't know about the Peterson. My Milano Churchwarden was the first churchwarden I ever bought and it was a decent little smoker. The Carousel Smoke Shop in Cinci was where I bought it. I went there a year or two later and the guy remembered me because it was the only churchwarden they'd sold. The shoppe is great though.
I have a Porter Churchwarden from 4th Generation. I actually met Peter Stokkybye and had a great time. He sold it too me and I love it. I have a picture of it on one of my albums that you should be able to see. I wanted a big bowl and a rusticated finish. I got exactly that in this great got-to smoker. I would recommend it for sure. The Lucite stem was a bit hard to get out at first, but it's working really well now.
Hope this helps you out. Are you looking at any thing else in particular?

I like the Sav 601 which has no filter, a ample chamber that's still not too heavy for the long stem, and a full arching stem which is the classic churchwarden. For small churchwardens, Ewa sold by Iwan Ries makes good ones for about $38. For an excellent price on a straight churchwarden, look at PC's Big Ben Lectura. Just a few ideas.

Thanks to both of you for your info and tips. I always thought I might have made a mistake by not keeping the HCA churchwarden, and I'm going to look into the short churches. But for the nonce, I'm very happy with the grey D-17. But of course I have to rotate...
