In NYC, Chinese restaurants are open on Christmas. Well, at least when I was living there. It created a tradition of Jewish people going to Chinese restaurants on Christmas since they both do not exactly observe Christmas. Today, went out with boys to see what's open. Starbucks, and Chinese restaurants. Even in NC! Had to stop by for some Chinese food. Although, I'm not a Jewish person, I do love me some good Chinese food!

We went with a hotdog bar. Ten different kinds of weenies with several toppings to choose from. Little cleanup and everyone loved it
Big fan of hot dog bars (or places that have a coney, New York, and Chicago dog).

We never really had a hot dog night growing up and I never got why. It's cheap, easy, customizable, and delicious.

I make hot dogs or brats at least once a month. My current go to is brats sauteed until brown, then braised for about 30 minutes and topped with porter onions (carmelized onions finished in porter beer until it's almost an onion jam consistency).

Yes, chinese food with its umami mono sodium glutamate kick is always alluring, especially after Christmas dinners filled with home cooked lamb shank done as a mild Kaschmiri curry in almond sauce, ostrich fillets with creamy spinach, some Shiraz, coffee, tiramisu, German Stollen, Italian panettone, sweets in all its richness.

We decided to go for a improvised kind of a Chicken Chow Mein in our frying pan. Umami to yer all.

I'd take it instead of.

Where I live, the only thing open on Christmas day is Jack In The Box. Aside from their food being lousy (IMO), that's pretty much the reason I don't go there during the year. I think of the employees who are no doubt forced to take a shift on Christmas and don't want to be a part of it.

Families are ok in small doses but I much prefer my own company, I can do just as I please when I please and how I please, and that suits me just fine :col:.

Regards & season's greetings,

Jay.
A liquor store in this area frequently has humorous messages on their sign. My favorite: " The holidays are for family....we sell alcohol"

Cheers jay, a happy and healthy new year ahead.
