Women are always welcome at the Chicago Pipe Show. We have many women table exhibitors, pipe smokers, and non-smoking wives who attend the Show. And we have events of interest for all women.
On Friday, May 3rd, from 9:30AM - 4:30PM we have Champagne Limousine rides for women and men to and from the Premium Outlet Mall. There is no charge for this event, but sign up early on the poster in the lobby to get your seat in the limo.

The location for this event is the Main Hotel Lobby entrance area for Departure.
At 9 PM on Friday the 3rd, we have a free craft project in the Ruby Room in the Tower at Pheasant run. This year’s Tobacco Related Craft: CPCC Necklaces and Bracelets. Linda Cobine will demonstrate the art of creating CPCC Necklaces and Bracelets. Each attendee will be given all materials necessary to create the necklace or bracelet of their choice. Each attendee will be able to take their creation home, free of charge, as a souvenir of the 2013 Chicago Pipe Show courtesy of Sutliff Tobacco Company. Limited to 40 participants on a first come, first served basis.

Location: Ruby Room, Tower
And on Saturday the 4th of May, at 12 noon, we present the Private Ladies Luncheon for Female Exhibitors. All female exhibitors, and wives of Exhibitors, are invited to a salad luncheon with wine and dessert. The lunch is served in the St. Charles Ballroom at Pheasant Run.

Lets Eat!
On Friday, May 4th, from 7PM - 10 PM The Chicago Pipe Show will serve the Welcome Dinner Buffet. Each year we serve dinner to about 600 people attending the Show.
This is a 7 course buffet meal, including salad and dessert. Coffee and tea are also included. And it is all FREE.
This is your chance to have dinner with 599 other pipe makers, pipe smokers, and pipe collectors in the lovely St. Charles Ballroom at Pheasant Run Resort. Everyone attending the Show is welcome. No reservations are required. Free tickets are distributed on Friday at the Pheasant Run Resort.
This dinner is sponsored by the Sutliff Tobacco Company, and the Chicago Pipe Show.
On Saturday, May 5th, The Chicago Pipe Show will host the annual Pipe and Cigar Banquet. This dinner is limited to the first 150 people who reserve a ticket. The cost of this dinner is $65 per person.
This banquet features an outstanding filet mignon dinner, including soup, salad, dessert, potatoes and vegetable. Red and white wines are also served at the table, all included in the ticket price.

Most of the water has gone away. Looking at the 10 day forecast on Weather.com shows scattered showers and temps between 36-65 over the show period. The tent is elevated a couple inches over the parking lot. I doubt there will be any problems. Don't forget to bring a light jacket.

The post for today will be about the Dunhill Focus Group.
Dunhill collectors and smokers gather at the show to talk, to display and to learn about Dunhill pipes. This year, the moderator of the Dunhill Focus Group will be the noted collector of Dunhill pipes, Bob Noble. Bob has been a great speaker at many Dunhill Focus meetings in prior years. We all look forward to Bob bringing this year’s group to a new level.
The Dunhill Focus Group 2013 will meet in the Ruby Room on the second floor in the Tower at Pheasant Run Resort. The meeting will take place at 5 pm on Thursday, May 2nd, 2013. Speakers, in addition to Bob Noble, may include Rich Esserman, Rob Cooper (Coopersark on eBay), Craig Cobine of DunhillCollector.com, and Mike Reschke, President of the CPCC and Assistant Show Director.
Everyone is invited to attend, and to bring a Dunhill pipe to show and/or to discuss, but it is not necessary to bring a pipe to the Dunhill Focus Group 2013.

Craig, is there a consolidated list of all the events going on? I'm just trying to be able to plan out what seminars I would be able to attend since it looks like several are happening at the same time. Thanks!

I plan on flying the club airplane pictured below to the show on Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather. If I am there, Chris Tarler, in the C&D booth, will know as I will visit him first before anyone else. I sure hope we have good flying weather as I really want to attend and I would consider it an honor to get to meet as many of my fellow Forum Members as possible! I hope to I have the privilege to meet some of you in person!

Around Christmas, I bought a plug of tobacco from Shawn of this forum. If anyone would like to try some, find me at the tent. I will be glad to share.

Starting to Get Obsessed

I attended my first "Chicago Pipe Show." Wednesday I went to the Charatan Collectors Club meeting. I had my required five. They are all good smokers and special to me. I was not aware of the specialized extra large behemoths carved by Charatan. Today I went for the Smoke and Swap. Tables were available for free for those who wanted to sell their pipes. Some were carvers, some where divesting their extras, and some were in business. Some were selling old cans of famous tobaccos. A tin of "Three Nuns" was priced at $50. I could not tell how old it was, but if you order the current blend from Denmark or Switzerland and include the shipping it is pushing $25. I'm a newbie to Pipe shows. There were several things that struck me. First, BIG is in, small is out or just isn't there. Whether estate pipes or new pipes, big is where it's at. And I am talking huge. I was chatting with one smoker who showed me his purchases. He pulled out three with bowls that filled my hand, and I wear an XL glove. I noticed that he did not hold his pipe in his mouth by his teeth, but held it in hand as he puffed. I know personally I'm just not sold on the "Bigger is Better" idea. Maybe it just takes some time to get use to it. The second thing that struck me was unconventional shapes are in. Classic shapes are for the Estate Pipe crowd. There were new pipes that had some variations on the classic style, but bold, wild, crazy, and unconventional are the spirit of the times. It also made me think of its parallel with many other social ideas. Ideas about absolutes is out, do your own thing is in. Classic ideas are old ideas, we can reinvent the wheel, think outside the box, let's go in the opposite direction of flow to seek out new worlds. I've always associated pipe smoking with a certain tried and true conventional view of life. But it seems the spirit of the times has made it's mark on this area of life as well. There were some pipes that were avant garde, they were exploring the Zomby theme. Another had huge blocks of carved brier and what looked like deer antlers worked into the design. I would be afraid I could harm myself while having a bowl. It was all very educational. My best moments were conversations with other pipe smokers just sharing likes in pipes, tobacco, and things of life. I'm looking forward to Saturday.
