Boar’s Head Products announced it's recalling more than 7 million pounds of deli meat — including bacon, hot dogs, and all liverwurst products currently available across the U.S. — as they may be contaminated with Listeria.

Also, people in the industry say the infected plant in Virginia made lots of other brands, and more recalls are on the way.

I stopped eating all lunch meats, cold cuts, etc about 15 years ago after getting really sick from an otherwise delicious hoagie. I love a good Italian hoagie, it's such a satisfying treat, but man, that sandwich really opened the sluices on both ends.

So, what do they do with millions of pounds of potentially infected meat-like items? Reprocess it into pet food?

We have received 3 pre-recorded phone calls from Boarshead regarding the recall. I am assuming they contacted grocery store chains and if you have a 'store coupon card' and bought anything at the deli ... they call you. I had purchased some cheddar ... LOL Vermont cheddar. I also assume that anything that was in the case with the Boarshead is at risk of contamination. I threw out the remaining few slices.

A good store should toss everything in the case and sanitize the deli case and counter and area but in a busy store ... what are the chances ? When I was a kid working in a store deli we would have done that after hours when the store closed. As for loss the store would have kept a record and received a credit from the supplier. It was common practice back in yore.

Toss out everything (food) in contact. Case and area could be cleaned and sanitized in 2-3 hours depending on length of case. And now they have steam cleaning and power washing. We just had items from aisle 3 like fantastic, windex. and lysol cleaner and Palmolive. But you could be right based on price of deli meat alone ! There is absolutely no reason chicken, roast beef and ham should be $11-14 a pound in America. That's price gouging plain and simple. Its not like its Prague Ham (finest in world) or Premium filet mignon.

In my area I have heard that people are avoiding the GMO additives and buying from Hellal and Kosher delis only.
