That's what I was thinking also. I guess I'll be making another run to the craft store this week.

Ya done good, Scotty! Funny how the old "beat up" stuff always has a personality and a look that makes me want it, especially after someone has a great idea for a new use for it.

Thanks all! This was a fairly easy project to do. Just cut the dowels to fit. marked the spacing and took the dremel to them. Tapped them in place with some old 1" brad nails I had. Then took a quarter and marked off the resting divots and dremeled them. Then wrapped sandpaper around a finger and went at them to smooth them out. Should have made it hold twelve. There's enuf room for it.

Very nice. I like the rustic look.
Are Two Cousins overpriced? Well.....yes and no. Is their price higher than some cabinet that was outsourced over seas and made from cheaper materials...yes. But, being a woodworker I understand the reason for the cost. Its a hard business to make a living in unless you find a niche. I bid out most of my jobs at at least $50/hr plus wood (the cost of good quality lumber continues to rise) and hardware. I don't make $50 and hour after overhead costs are subtracted (glue, sandpaper, wear on tools, finish, screws, power, etc) So without mass producing these cabinets, using low cost materials, there is no way to make it profitable without higher pricing. I would guess Two Cousins is probably making less than $20-25/hr after overhead costs are deducted. Most of my work is commissioned custom pieces that will sell for more than a generic piece purchased at Wal-mart, Sears, etc. But the pieces don't contain particle board and "photographed" wood grain.
Re-purposing another item, like the pipe cabinet in this case, is a great and artistic way to create something useful.
Again, very nice job Scotty.
