Just got this in the mail. It's a Ser Jacopo Delecta Smooth L1 Dublin with silver accents.

I bought it from an auction house in New Jersey. I won the auction with $150, but after fees (What the hell is a Buyer's Premium?), taxes, shipping, and customs I'll bet it's closer to $300. Guess which auction house I won't ever be buying from again!

Anyway it's a gorgeous hunk of pipe that doesn't fit into any of my pipe racks. It's also another one that will take some courage to smoke - it's just too nice to sully.

Guess you will have to buy it its own stand!

I also have a hard time smoking my nicer pipes. So I totally understand what you mean. But then again, It's like a new car, after the first scratch, the rest don't really matter.

Nice pipe—congratulations!

A Buyer's Premium is essentially a service fee or commission. It's often a straight percentage and considered part of the sale price and the total amount is taxable. Many auction houses have a Buyer's Premium (although sometimes under different names). If you plan on getting anything from an auction house, get used to it. Any time I've bid on rare books and won at any major auction houses like Sotheby's or Christie's, that fee has been added. It's nothing new, and dare I say, ubiquitous these days.

That's a fine acquisition. I like the big Dublin bow, the metalwork, and the stem treatment. I love my SJ, a deep blast with a more squared off Dublin bowl and a square shank and saddle stem. I bought it on an excellent sale from SP with money from a windfall project. It's one of my treasures.
