Cheap Butane Destroys Lighters!

I just found out why my nice colibri lighter stopped working, and my new dissim started misfiring and soot appeared around the nozzle. Lighter gas from the corner shop/supermarket contains contminants I found out the hard way. Just ordered premium butane off ebay. Does everyone all know this?

Yes, that's a fact. Gave up on butane a long time ago and stick with my zippos.

I find zippos burn my tongue. I have to draw hard to get the flame onto the tobacco.
Im holding out for the premium butane. Seems cheap butane is the reason why all my butane lighters break eventually.

So far, I've only used Colibri Premium Butane. It says it's 99.99% pure, and it's caused no problem in my old boys. I've only had them 9 and 6 months, respectively, but they're used very heavily.

It's $5.99 for the big can at the cigarette stores here (a chain called Smoker Friendly). Don't know what your options are locally.

You have to use what you like. I think once you get the premium butane you'll be fine. It really makes a big difference.

Maybe this is more of a UK issue as my local options are just the cheap stuff. Maybe its like a conspiracy so peoples lighters always break so they have to keep buying new ones.

I use the below in my Old Boy w/great results. Certainly nothing wrong w/Zippo lighters, which I also like.

Invested in a couple of Zippos along with fuel, wicks, and flints. Even went as far as to put pipe inserts in a two of the three I own. However, I too have the same issue of having to draw really hard to light the pipe.

I only use Xikar High Performance butane. Switched a couple of years ago, no issues since.

I used Zippo butane in my Old Boys for years with no ill effects. Matter of fact, the pressure in a fresh can of Xikar blew the seals on one of my Old Boys.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I love the sound and feel of zippos, they just dont work for me

I use Ronson and Zippo fuel and the only breaks I've had have been from dropping lighters.

No, but I have started bleeding my new Dissim as it said on the instructions. Don't know how you would clean a lighter inside the nozzle and stuff?

Isopropyl alcohol and Q-tips.
