Has anyone heard of it? I haven't until today, you can ask it anything and it will help you out,,,,still waiting on a response on how to be a billionaire.....but it is good for a laugh and pipe questions and also tobacco.

The first version was released in 2022. Since then there's been a huge number of various AI apps, with hundreds of billions, if not yet trillions, of dollars going into development.

The implications are staggering, as tech and other businesses are laying off tens of thousands of people to be replaced by AI, and it's only the beginning. A lot of lower level white collar and service jobs will be disintegrated in the next few years, with many manufacturing jobs going next as advanced robotics come on board, as they are in other parts of the world.

The traditional pathways for gaining experience needed to become expert will be majorly impacted, leaving us with even bigger idiots running industries, or relying on apps to do their thinking for them.

And the tech isn't even fully baked. It's extremely faulty and even hallucinates, and it's coming online everywhere.

Fun times ahead.

The situation was discussed in depth recently in another thread:

Currently these AI apps scrape the internet for answers to your query.
About 40% of the answers will be false due to the huge amount of misinformation on the internet.
It may even scrape this site to answer someone's question.
Imagine that, one of us could be the final word on someone's internet search, and finally answer the question, "what's the best pipe tobacco?" :(

We can only hope Sig. Imagine if the secret Santa thread got absorbed into the 'matrix'.

The best tobacco according to AI would probably be pre-STG Gawith and Hoggarth, prior to 2016 when Mariah Carey changed the sauce recipe for Soms Besth Flake

Overly, I hate it when people leave their thinking to others. But, I admit when things get nowhere at work, I resort to it (not ChatGPT, but Claude, same s### different color). Sometimes I got a breakthrough using it and sometimes more trouble.
I have never used an AI for chatting. My mother-in-law does that a lot better (and she knows everything about everyone!).

It can be helpful if used as a tool for certain tasks that would otherwise require access to information not readily available. For example, I had it examine some photos of an opal in my wife’s ring. Its analysis verified the paperwork and provided additional details I was then able to verify myself. AI works best when its results are challenged and the questions differentiated several times. When challenge and queried skepticaly, it can be very effective. When taken at face value it is almost dangerous and useless. Like anything, it requires effort.

AI is part of the fabric of nearly all tech business now. Very useful for those who know how to use it. Like, game changer useful. Yes, it can make mistakes, but so can people! Reliable answers/responses come with proper prompting. If you know the subject matter, AI can make research and analysis exponentially faster and more thorough.
