I think so. It's his experience and if you can't afford high end, ( like me) it's still a great read about modern pipe history.I’ve always been curious about these books. Do these relate to the everyman pipe smoker? Someone not chasing the artisan pipes? The Savinelli, Peterson, Grabow guy?
I have the second one on my shelf to read after the former is finished. Basically a chapter a night. An enjoyable read. After finishing Rick Newcombe's "In Search of Pipe Dreams" and telling my wife how much I enjoyed it, she surprised me with a copy of his follow-up book "Still Searching for Pipe Dreams". I think the second book is even more enjoyable than the first!

I have all of the makers in my collection and I wouldn't class them as Artisan Pipes, the Peterson Standard System is priced fairly and as I am a wet smoker I smoke Petersons most of the time, Savinelli do a dry system pipe and the one I have is a favourite of mine, not to costly, most of my Petersons were estate pipes a were very cheap years ago.I’ve always been curious about these books.
