I was a bit surprised to smoke some Boswell’s berry cobbler through the same Grabow pipe but with a paper filter vs a 6mm Savenelli charcoal.

Noticeable and surprising increase in taste with the paper filter. Amazing that charcoal would mute the flavors. Will be expanding this very enjoyable science project tonight to ring in the new year!

If you are relatively new and having difficulty discerning flavors even with a good pack and low temperature cadence, changing up your filter may help!

best regards for a happy 2022!

Well, I find that filters don't necessarily tone down the flavour of the tobacco. What I do notice is that my tongue just doesn't pick up any more flavours after 2/3 of the tobacco has been smoked. I have experienced it with and without filter. So yeah...

Work- I like the cleaner cooler smoke as well. And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised charcoal is such a great filter! I read the Germans invented the charcoal pipe filter based on their experience during WW1 using charcoal filters for gas masks.

On a side note, if anyone’s ever been through a gas chamber in the military, the filters are very effective! It takes about 1 second without one to learn quickly ?
