Beautiful pipe owen, I have a very similar Charatan as well and love it.

The Charatan Relief sandblasts I think generally smoke better than the smooths. That's just my opinion, anyway. Sorry.

Interestingly, they only blasted the bowls, and rusticated the shanks to "match" the bowl. If you have several examples, you'll see what i mean...

I love these craggy blasts. In the 1950s early 60s, Reubin Charatan used to tell Jonny Mahoney, before he packed the bowls up to be sent to the glass works to be sand-blasted "don't forget to write a note saying 'heavy on the bowls and light on the shanks' and put it in the box"
