I’m with you @didimauw. At our monthly TAPS meetings I’ll try someone’s aged straight Va, and it’s just meh. Had a bowl of the recent Carolina limited edition yesterday. Smoked it slower than an aro…no bite, no relights. Down to just a little dottle in 70 minutes or so. Accompanied by my usual unflavored black hot tea, so no competition for the taste buds. Just meh. Thing is, my favorite blends, like OJK, have Va as a component. Another fave is LBF, but there the Va is strongly accompanied by Cavendish and Perique. And with any English/Latakia, the Va is in the background to me. I just don’t have the palate to get the @jiminks grassy/citrus/hay flavors from a Va, whereas I do get the cocoa/nut from a burley or the campfire/bbq from a Ky/dark fired.
