Chalk Pipe Filters?

I saw pipe filters made from chalk. They're basically shaped like hockey pucks and made to drop on the bottom of the bowl. Has anybody tried them? They are inexpensive but I'm just wondering if they will not release a chalk taste while smoking.
That couldn't exactly be fun, now, would it.

Are you sure its not meer? Ive seen those but I have not used them. I do use meer chips at times and I dont think they change the flavor significantly.

EDIT: I stand corrected. I looked them up and they claim to be chalk...interesting.

Sharrow Philtpads.

They work very well and can be reused for several bowls.
Reduces moisture/gurgle and aids combustion by creating an “air-well” at the bottom of the chamber hence minimising or eliminating dottle.

I switched to meer chips and Nording Keystones as these are considerably cheaper

Dont think I have seen those here, would be inerested on how they help. I occasionally use Meer chips with good reults

I use Sharrow Philt Pads in my meerschaums and have been doing so for decades. I use them until they turn black. They don't affect the taste of the tobacco and they act in a similar fashion to a silver three penny piece put in the bottom of old meerschaums to aid in the coloring. There is also a meerschaum version of the same thing which also works pretty well. Recently I have been using these wire birds nests baskets in my pipe that came from @simong and they are fabulous.

I use the meer strainer style filters in my meers. Love them. Much easier to smoke the entire bowl down to a nice ash.

I use chips for air space and to take up chamber space as well. I use them until they get lost. It makes no difference to me if they are black.
