Is it OK to use the original plastic tins/cans tobacco comes in to cellar them or should they be stored in glass jars instead? I am talking about the plastic containers like Prince Albert comes in.

Yeah glass jars. Plastic is for margarine, yogurt and cool whip. 
I did use the forum search. Maybe searching by topic didn't exist back in the old timey days of this forum. Searching by post keyword is a waste of time. Doing a topic search for PLASTIC gave me some posts I didn't find relevant. Now it will because of this thread.

We generally do not suggest folks effin' google it, but in the future, search is done easiest, I think, by just using Google search, with "pipesmagazine" and a word or two as the string.
I would recommend using glass jars. It's much less likely to dry out. Although I have heard that the old codger blends tend to dry out more slowly ?
A vacuum sealer is a good investment if you don't want to remove anything from the original packaging.
