I had great success with using big 5 gallon or so plastic pails with lids, with the tobacco placed in quart freezer zip locks inside the pails. I would soak a doubled over paper towel in distilled water, wring it out and put it on top. But the way I went through tobacco back then, nothing was long term?. Jars and Mylar are the ways to go now.

I use the Tupperware containers for short term storage of opened tins/bags. It slows down the loss of moisture but doesn't prevent it altogether. Even putting tobacco in zip locks inside of Tupperware will only inhibit moisture loss. IMHO, there are 2 suitable methods for long term storage/aging. Mason jars and heat sealed 7 mm mylar bags.

I’ve stored my unopened tins in vacuum sealed bags. It’s actually helped protect them against rust. The bags that lost their seal had some early signs of rust. The bags that kept the vacuum did not.
