Hopefully.
I tell myself I'm going to make a concerted effort to stockpile some leaves, every time I order tobacco. What has always ended up happening, though, is that I'll buy 10-15 tins of my staples, or a couple pounds of whatever, and before I know, I've blown through my whole order, and have to pay for shipping, (usually 2 day air), just to make sure I don't run out.
This time will be different. I'm deterimined to place at least one $100 order every month, for who knows how long. I'm just tired of running out of tobacco!
My first order placed in light of my new found determination, was one pound ODF, and one pound of MacBaren's Va #1. Next month, I'll be ordering at least two pounds of LNF, and whatever else I come up with. I'm thinking some FVF, or something from G&H. I'll be focusing mostly on bulk, until I have a heaping hoard of glass jars full of tobacco.
What this means in short, is that I must forsake my love- Dunhill Flake, until the time is right. :crying:

You can do this!

I made the same commitment to budget for purchasing twice as much as I smoke in each month's staple purchase of LNF. That was between two and three years ago, and I have just filled and put back my third full case of pint jars, plus some various half pints of the stuff. A rough estimate would be around 12-14 lbs of lovely leaf.
A note on justification: I showed my partner that tobacco prices will not be going down and I am buying tomorrow's tobacco at today's prices, so to speak (she's a smoker too). It really did just start as a hedge against inflation, but there are jars almost three years old in there now. That hedge has already paid off a little in just those three years as prices have gone up some, and a two year old jar did mellow and change in flavor a little bit. Gravy!
If you don't plan to quit smoking anytime soon, I think it would be as good a decision for you as for me. There are other jars of leaves around here too. It's summer break and I'll put up some photos.

You can do this!

Steve that is the best and clearest way I have heard this explained so far. I'm totally and shamelessly stealing that phrase! :D

Thank you, it's a phrase and concept I learned reading here. It might have been Peck who steered me towards a good decision, but really it could have been any of the members.

I've got the same problem. Buy a bunch and smoke it all up. But I may be finally falling behind and getting to where I'll have more on hand than I can smoke before getting more again. I found a few blends I like enough to keep in stock.

I've built up a very small and modest cellar, but it was mainly from buying my faves in bulk, and adding a few extra MISC tins to the order. While smoking my faves, and sampling some new stuff, Id place another order.
I think it's almost time that I purchase another bulk supply. The funds should allow for a small replenishment of blends that I cant get local.

The way prices are going up, your "Bulk First" agenda seems like good common sense, lost. Tins will probably be better for re-sale, but I think the way to look at it is this. The bulk is for ME. And me,first!

I think this is a wise decision. Looking over what I have done so far since 08/2014, it would cost me around 29% more to replace what I have.

Good plan - my most recent TAD order was specifically to build my cellar (can't pass up an Escudo sale...) :D

Damn, you must smoke quite a few bowls a day!

I've been smoking a pipe off and on since the 70's, albeit more steadily these past few years and I have more tobacco than I know what to do with. Then again, I only smoke about two bowls a day.

I don't have a partner anymore Steve, so the only person I need to justify anything for is myself. It's pretty easy. "Hey dude, you need tobacco." "Well I'll be. I DO need more tobacco!"
Griffin- that's my plan exactly, if my bulk orders come up a few dollars short of the $100 mark, I'll be throwing in some tins of stuff I'd like to try. Then, once I have a decent bulk cellar stocked up, and a list of tinned baccys I really like, I'll start ordering those 10 tins at a time.
Phil, I smoke a whole hell of a lot. Basically all day long.

All kidding aside it sounds like a great way to start accumulating some leaf.
Right now due to crazy work hours I'm only smoking a bowl or two a day during the week and probably 3-5 bowls a day on the weekends. So right now I'm smoking WAY less than I'm buying which is helping to bump up the cellar contents. Slowly but surely. :puffy:
