No audits for me................. I like the element of surprise.
I've got a pretty extensive Bourbon and Scotch collection, as well as a cigar and pipe tobacco stash.
I like not knowing what I have, I keep it pretty disorganized, with stuff stashed here and there............
I like to dig around and find something, and go "Whoa!...... I don't remember this!"
Kind of like finding that $100 bill in the sport coat pocket, that you pulled from the closet and haven't worn for 10 years........... Yea, .................. no spreadsheets for me.............. puffy

Just found these in the old suitcase under the stairwell.................

It's kind of fun getting old!............... ;)

That is absolutely insane! If I had those I would definitely know about it, haha. More like finding a shoe box full of $100 bills.

I had an unexpected start to my cellaring. I've been piping less than two years, so I would just buy one aromatic tin at a time. Then I saw someone was purging their cellar on Craigslist, so I jumped on it. Mostly aromatics, some straight VAs, a couple VaPers and English blends. Still in tins for the most part (and for God knows how long), and some bulk stuff. That was back in August, and I'm just at the point now where everything but the bulk is jarred. It's hard to get Ball jars here, so I have the bulk in Ziploc bags with Boveda packets.

Anyway, the reason I'm sharing all this is because I wish to thank you for starting this thread! You got me thinking about how I need to do my own audit. I don't even know what some of that stuff is in there. And what the hell am I going to do with 15+ oz. of Captain Black Cherry? Ugh. I need an intern or something.
@Servant King I'll have the Captain Black Cherry if you don't want it - send it down via @condorlover1!

10-12 pounds will likely last me 20 years.

Me too. I’m not like Jim, my tobacco consumption is very moderate (although it’s crept up during covid due to weekly Zooms with friends). But compiling a spreadsheet was fun; keeping it up to date as I continue to buy tobacco I don’t really need is another matter.

I'm a spreadsheet guy. It makes it so convenient for those of us who have cluttered minds. Example, something goes on sale, I think "ooh, I want some of that." I then refer to the spreadsheet to see if I already have some and if so, how much and what were my impressions of the blend. It helps me make informed decisions but mostly, it just stops me from buying the same things over and over again as I am quite insane :)

My Spreadsheet Statistics:
  • 1058 line entries. Each line is 1 container so some are 16 ounce, some are 50 grams. the same blends will have several lines so that when I pull a tin, I can just cut and paste that line to my open tobacco page.
  • 191.23 pounds or 3,059.73 ounces, $22,681.76 in value which is an $7.41 average cost per ounce
  • At my Burn Rate, I have 59.41 years' worth, so I will run out when I am 119.41 years old.
  • The spreadsheet is pivotable so I can manipulate it by date, blend, brand, varietal, in which container number it's located, etc. etc. etc. etc.
  • In addition to above, I have 68 excellent blends ( tracked on a separate page) that are open and currently being enjoyed. It's just about 5 pounds total.
  • Another 5-ish pounds of tobaccos in "Time Out" for biting me... puffy Bad Weed!

It's a wonderful sickness......

With figures like, those, you must be a data analyst, auditor, or accountant. Impressive!

Nice find! Especially since what you have are the English made blends, not the STG poop.

Mine's a joke compared with this crowd! ~15 tins and 10 jars, about 2kg of tobacco in total. I got friends who tell me what the hell will you do with all this tobacco? I proceed to tell them that they're looking at maybe 1.5 years' worth of tobacco, and I've been left without before so it's really not much.

Funny coming from some people, my cousin for instance buys 50L of raki from Crete per year, together with his dad. That's a ton of alcohol for someone like me who has a couple of glasses of wine, or cans of beer per week, but my cousin has a glass every evening, so actually 25L is his year's worth of booze ;)
