My family loves good food! Eating out was like a sport in our house. My mother is also a great cook. Celebrations up until I was 10 were at a place called the PX in Flint, MI. Awesome ribs, family style. Every time we went there was always a bunch of people my parents knew. It had a sense of community for a restaurant. After age 10 we moved to Orange County, and the special restaurant we celebrated at was Yen Ching, Chinese restaurant in Orange. Fantastic place.

My childhood "fancy" restaurant was JB's. There was also a place in town that I considered super fancy was Gran Avenue Pizza. The holy grail was The Spaghetti Factory in Denver. I realized later that these were good but not top tier.

There was one place in town called The Cavalryman which actually was a semi high end restaurant which I only went to 3 times (prom, when I proposed to my now ex-wife and one more valentine's day with my ex) which had some amazing steaks and a truly high end whiskey list. We could never afford as a family of six to go when I was a kid. It would have come to about $500 back in the 90s.
