Cedar Flavor?

What is it in a blend that gives it a cedar-like flavor?

I’m currently smoking an English from Schwab’s Pipes N Stuff in Lexington, KY called “Graduate.” (I’ll post a pic below.) It is incredibly tasty. Has become my favorite blend over recent weeks. It has this wonderfully refreshing quality that subtly comes through. It’s not exactly minty or menthol-like. The best descriptor I can give is that it reminds me almost instantly of fresh cedar.

N.B.: I find it most notable on the retrohale.

At any rate, if any you know precisely what gives this flavor, I’d appreciate it. Moreover, if you know of any other blends that contain similar notes, I’d sure be interested in checking them out.

(Final note: if you’re ever in the Central KY area, make it a point to stop by Schwab’s. Excellent local shop with a 50+ year history.)

Orientals and Latakia.

Although, not every latakia and orientals blend is going to have those cedar notes you are liking. I imagine it is a combination of a few of the orientals with the latakia. I am just not sure which ones.
GLP Ashbury and McConnell's Oriental has those notes you are liking as well. I used to pick them up in the older version of Presbyterian Mixture, but I haven't tried this newer versions, so... IDK about it.

Blends heavy in yenidje, basma and samsun are very cedar-like without the presence of latakia.

Indeed. I have very fond memories of being a young boy back in the early 80s. The shop was in the Lexington Mall back then, and I would accompany my dad in there. Even as a child those fragrances captivated me. And of course the full-sized carved Indian, which is a requirement of any serious smoke shop.

I detect a distinct cedar note in Bob's Chocolate Flake that I really enjoy. I find it quite unique and appreciate you posting this question as I'm also on the hunt for other blends that offer this flavor.

That “clean flavor” perfectly describes the experience. Sadly, this blend is out of stock there.

I’m growing goose creek red tobacco (dark air cured Virginia) this year as some say it has a cedar spice note to it.

GLP Abington has a ton of different aromatic wood notes. It's a heavy blend and quite complex in my view. Very enjoyable.

I noticed cedar in Sutliff # 5. I really like it. Anyway maybe you can analyze the common ingredient if enough people call out blends with the presence of cedar notes.

Really good. I tried is a year ago and put it away for a year. Much better now after it settled down. Nice lemony Va with a hint of mineral that comes off the semiose. Perique is very background so it doesn't overpower.
