Smoked CB 40 years ago or so.

Between Original, Royal and Gold, I liked Royal the best.

Never tried Dark.

Dark is sweeter and has more of a vanilla taste. Harder to light and I've noticed no tongue bite with either blend, but that depends on how fast you smoke. Also the dark is a better mixer.

The Dark is more of a straight vanilla and Royal is more caramel. Dark also tends to be a bit drier. I find Dark to smoke a bit cooler as well. Feel free to post as many questions as you like about CB as this is a pipe smoking forum.
