I'm a "dog person" but we had a cat when I was growing up - he was great. I had a kitten/cat in grad school and beyond until a move forced me to find it a different home, and lucked into someone who gave her a really good one. Each of our daughters got kittens from Santa when they were five because that's what they wanted, lol. They were fun to have around and I love running into cats just about anywhere but each of them passed on after the respective daughter had gone off to college and my wife and I didn't have any interest in having cats in the house any more but happy to hang with one of our daughter's two cats and two dogs when we visit - just too many "down to earth" aspects of cats in the house we don't miss (and my wife is a wee bit allergic). I love cats - but strictly other people's cats these days. I'll never be without a dog. Different strokes!
It's Christmas, here's one of my daughter's cats who came to visit its first Christmas.
