it looks really nice and id say you should be very proud of the work youve done.. How was the briar to work with :?:
im curious if being as old as the block was that it would have been very dried out, and prone to cracking. But it really looks good and from the sounds of it you took your time and made sure of every detail. your hard work paid off buddy.

Bullbriar definitely sounds like good name for a brand. This being your first one, then I can only imagine how pipes would look when you've had a more experience. I love that the shank and bowl are defined and the transition of that part. Great looking pipe! And this is coming from someone who doesn't care for freehands.

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm really loking forward to smoking it today, and will let you know the results. I may get a few more blocks and see what happens? Where is the best place to buy them?
Novice: The briar worked fine, just hard as hell. Using the micro sanding drum helped. I could really feel the toughness of the briar when I used the knife and rasps, though. There were no problems with cracking or checking.

Love the grain, the plateau, the pairing of the stem with the briar, and the jaunty shaping of the freehand.

Looks like a pipe you might have bought from an artisan carver for many hundreds. For a first pipe, it is

crazy good. You must have a lot of woodworking experience. This doesn't look like the product of a struggling

amateur. If I tried a carve-it-yourself kit, you'd see the tooth marks ... heck, you might see the teeth.

Very nice looking pipe, I'm a bent guy so it's right up my alley. Not to be nosey but where did you get the stem from and did the block come pre drilled?

Holy shit Roosevelt, that is insanely good for a first pipe. It has the curves of a fine woman, me likey.
