Meaux, La, 12 miles SW of Lafayete La,used to be a Rice Farm, no money in rice, you need irrigation, Deep water wells cost over 100,000$ and you"ll never recover the cost, so hello cane.

I drove past a cane field in LA on the way to New Orleans when they were burning it off, wow, what a thick smoke that put off. Do they still that?

Boud I went out to get pic but sun is so strong can not see , men walk behind the kicked out cane and lay the 4 ft pieces length wise on top of row, tractor comes and covers it up and yes cane grows from each knuckle, very labor intensive, after the planting it's all machines, you get 4 yrs from each planting, that is you plant every 4 years.

How long is it from planting to first harvesting the cane? Do you get four cuttings from each planting or does it take 4 years to mature for cutting?

Will harvest next year, a crop every year, then replant in 4 yearsYou go without a check on the replanting year, Land owners who do not farm themselves either rent out per acre or go with a share, 1/6 is the norm , I have an old standing 1/5, the new conglomerate tried to get me to go with a 1/6 and a bonus , I told them I"ll stick with what I got, They were not happy, but I was.!

Not really, maybe that size they can get more loads in.

Yes I do, he started a jewelry business out of his car trunk ,now he"s Big, found a novel way to reclaim gold while working jewelry and makeing big bucks on that, does a lot of charity work in the Acadiana aera, good people.
